Arlington-Fairfax ELks support Veterans/Military in the New Year
As 2025 ended, our Lodge volunteers delivered 21 boxes of snack foods to the Ft Myer USO (Joint Base Myer/Henderson Hall). The delivery included such snacks as chips, beef sticks, protein bars, etc., which was funded by the Grand Lodge Freedom Grant. Volunteers also delivered 24 boxes of Girl Scout cookies (donated by Lisa/Michael Stevens) and 8 boxes of Lil Debbie’s Oatmeal Cookies (donated by Jerry Sall/Kathy Showker).
Then as the New Year began, our Lodge continued our support for our Veterans and Military with two frozen food deliveries in January 2026 to the USO centers at Reagan National Airport and Ft Myer. The hearty, frozen food provides easily microwaveable nourishment for the weary traveling visitors to USO Reagan and for the Honor Guard visitors to the Ft Myer USO.
Additionally, our Lodge volunteers delivered a Welcome Home Kit to a veteran who was moving into his new apartment. The Welcome Home Kit provides the necessities a home requires, such as bedding, sheets, kitchenware, pots & pans, toilet paper, etc. This program is a partnership between the Dept of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Elks. The VA finds the homeless veteran housing and the local Elks Lodge provides the furnishings, which is majorly funded through Grand Lodge Grants or other Grand Lodge funding.
