| The
Elks National Home in Bedford, VA has been called the best-kept secret
in Elkdom. Not any more. We've never been very good about keeping
secrets. |
||
Where
is it? - It's nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains
in southwestern Virginia, on 180 acres of rolling farmland. Bedford
is located on US Route 460, midway between Roanoke and Lynchburg.
From Interstate 81, take exit 150A. Greyhound Bus Lines travel to
the city. The nearest airports are in Roanoke and Lynchburg. |
||
The
facility - The administration building comprises the lobby, dining
room, library, recreation room, clinic and offices. The 1999 renovation
program created apartments suitable for single Elk members (male or
female) and Elk couples. Of course, the previous residential style
of living is still available, also. The rooms are in nine separate
buildings, which are connected by covered porches and walkways. |
